In 2023, the French publisher Les Éditions de la Cerise released a collection of works by Yamaguchi Akira. The initial print run sold out overseas without reaching Japanese distribution channels, but a reprint was completed this fall, making it available domestically for the first time. This lavishly crafted volume comes in a slipcase with a distinctive, artful design and binding, showcasing Yamaguchi’s work in an impressive format. It’s his first published collection since Shinran: The Complete Illustrations (Seigensha, 2019). This collection spans a wide range of works, including pieces previously unpublished in Japan, as well as book illustrations, paintings, reproductions, sculptures, commissioned works, and drawings. Bold editorial choices, unique to this international edition, highlight the vivid imagery and impact of Yamaguchi's creations.
